Ingredients

  • 8 pound bone in pork shoulder
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 garlic cloves peeled
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Method

Stovetop
  1. Heat oil in pan
  2. Season pork shoulder generously with salt and pepper
  3. Sear on high heat, browning thoroughly on all sides
Crock Pot
  1. Peel garlic and lay in bottom of pot
  2. Add bay leaves, dried thyme, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce and water
  3. Lay pork on top, fat side up
  4. Cook for five hours on high
